Despite the fact that a Black Panther sequel is in the works, it turns out that the lead character will not be recast following the tragic passing of actor, Chadwick Boseman. This was announced by Disney via its official Twitter account.
It’s hard to imagine Black Panther and Wakanda without T’Challa but it’s even harder to replace the actor that gave the beloved character life, at this point in time!
As a result, Black Panther 2, which will, once again, be both directed and written by Ryan Coogler, will not feature the main character anymore!
As per Disney’s tweet, its Marvel Studios branch ‘will not recast the character, but it will explore the world of Wakanda and the rich characters introduced in the first film.’
Furthermore, earlier today during Disney’s Investor Day, Marvel president Kevin Feige shared with the viewers that he ‘wanted to acknowledge the devastating loss of such a dear friend. Chadwick Boseman was just an immensely talented actor and inspirational individual who affected all of our lives professionally as well as personally. His portrayal of T’Challa is iconic and it transcends iteration of this character in any other medium from Marvel’s past.’
As fans know, the beloved actor tragically passed away at the age of only 43 this past summer, after battling colon cancer for four years, in secret from the public and most people in his life that were not immediate family – including his co-stars!
Ever since then, many have been wondering how the second instalment in the Black Panther universe would even happen without him.
There have even been rumors that the actor would be added in as CGI, something that has already been confirmed to be false.
And now, it’s also become clear that he is not going to be replaced on the big screen either!
