During her acceptance speech at the CMA Awards yesterday, Maren Morris, paid tribute to some very deserving women in the industry! The country singer won the award in the Female Vocalist of the Year category, a huge honor!
But even though that was her moment, Maren Morris wanted to use this opportunity and share the spotlight with all the ‘amazing Black women’ in country music!
She gushed during the speech: ‘I love you so much, all the women in this category. I’m going to try not to curse. I’m sorry… if I do. I’m really not going to. Thank you so much to my team. I have a lot of people to thank, and they are the typical ones who made this dream come true with me, but there’s some names in my mind that I want to give recognition to, because I am just a fan of their music, and they are as country as it gets. I want them all to know how much we love them. And check out their music after this.’
She went on to name drop Yola, Linda Martell, Mickey Guyton, Brittney Spencer, Rissi Palmer, and Rhiannon Giddens.
The award winner stated that ‘There are so many amazing Black women that pioneered and continue to pioneer this genre, and I know they are going to come after me, they have come before me, but you have made this genre so, so beautiful. I hope you know we see you. Thank you for making me inspired as a singer, and this has been just the most magical night. I get to go see my baby after this.’
The star concluded her acceptance speech by thanking ‘country music’ and expressing how much the award means to her before sending one last ‘thank you’ into the world.
As fans may know that was not even Morris’ only award last night.
Other notable honors she received were for her song The Bones, which was named both Single of the Year and Song of the Year!
