In the new job listing, Sucker Punch is asking for applicants who have a desire to write stories set in feudal Japan, and someone who has a deep understanding of open-world games. Also, the project is listed as a AAA game, so, it’s pretty safe to assume that the position is for a sequel to Ghost of Tsushima.
Below is a list of requirements for the aforementioned job opening at Sucker Punch.
- 1+ years’ experience as a game writer. Shipped titles and AAA open-world experience strongly preferred. Excellent organizational skills. Able to produce quality writing under tight deadlines with minimal supervision. Deep understanding of open-world narrative design and the current generation of open-world games. Strong skill collaborating with a creative team across many disciplines. Flexibility to collaborate remotely while working from home. Experience receiving creative feedback on your work. Strong ability to absorb feedback and revise your writing in alignment with core design values. Ability to self-critique and generate constructive feedback for other writers and designers. Desire to write stories set in feudal Japan.
The ending of Ghost of Tsushima left things open for a sequel, as Jin Sakai, the game’s main protagonist, was branded a traitor by the Shogun, despite the fact that his methods stopped the Mongols from conquering the Japanese island.
In the game’s final scene, Sucker Punch gave players a choice to either kill Jin’s uncle or spare him after their duel. If you kill Lord Shimura, then that’s it — he’s dead. If you don’t, there will be a dialogue option after the game is completed in which Jin says that his uncle has passed, so it appears that, even if you choose to spare the Jito, he’ll end up dying of unknown causes.
Ghost of Tsushima’s sequel will likely take place on Japan’s mainland, with the main antagonist being either the Shogun, who branded Jin a traitor, or Kublai Khan, who was mentioned several times during the game’s single-player campaign.
The first game’s main antagonist, Khotun Khan, is a fictional character, however, Kublai, Khotun’s cousin, was an actual historical figure who led the Mongol Empire during the first Mongol invasion of Japan.
For now, though, it seems that Sucker Punch’s main focus is the Legends DLC, which launched for free last week. It includes a ton of new additions to the single-player campaign, as well as various multiplayer modes, including co-op missions and a survival mode.
